It's easy and fun and we all have drawers full of old t-shirts, right? I was inspired by Claire to start cutting up t-shirts and get right to work. She is using a different method (that is so very cool) but I stuck to my very large crochet needle as my implement of choice. As you will see, either tool creates a beautiful rug.
Off to a good start!
It's a little over a foot across and this is just 3 man size t-shirts so far, so a little goes a long way.
I have so much going on this week with sewing work and set painting, prop gathering etc. and yet still felt the immediate need to start this project. (??)
My hands just couldn't wait. Do you ever find that the more creative projects you are involved in, the harder it is to stop working ? It seems my brain re-wires itself and needs to just keep working on something when I am moving at this pace. Solving problems, making adjustments. You know , all those awesome things that come with creating something from nothing? :)
There's a great tutorial from Cal Patch over at Craftstylish if you want to give this a try. Even if you've never crocheted before this would be a good beginning project because it can be done with a basic stitch. And the bonus is you can do some early Spring cleaning and make use of some of those old t-shirts that are filling the drawers!
Have fun :)
Wow - I am so excited that I inspired someone else to get to it with the old tee shirts.
I'm going round-and-round on my rug again tonight, and I am really enjoying watching it grow.
I predict you will end up like me - wanting to raid other people's wardrobes for their old clothes, just to vary your colour choices!

So funny Claire. It's true. I have been looking for new color choices everywhere! Thanks for sharing the project. I am having fun watching my rug grow too!
